Sometimes in the middle of a session, I’ll just stop and and think to myself just how fortunate I am to be able to do what I love. I’ve had a whole host of miserable jobs in my life and they have all been a journey to get here, to a place where work doesn’t feel like work. It’s like kindergarten recess with a camera and a latte.
One of the cool things about photography is that I just try to capture the moment the way that I saw it and felt it. This requires me to immerse myself into the moment. The people I am photographing have to feel comfortable enough to allow me into their world so that this can be possible. Sometimes this can be a tricky thing. My beautiful wife, Sharon and I will often spend hours prepping for sessions, researching locations, learning about our clients (through conversation and also our handy online JCP questionnaires). I want to prepare as much as possible for the session so that when I start shooting, I can relax and lose myself in the moments.
When Amanda called and asked if we would photograph her family at the county fair, I got really excited. Amanda is a great photographer and scrapbooker and I really admire her work. I really felt honored that she wanted me to capture her family.
I must admit I was a little nervous on the day of the shoot. I really wanted the images to be amazing. Once we met up at the fair, I forgot all about nerves and just enjoyed myslef. Amanda, who is expecting her second, and her husband Ben and their little girl M were so much fun to be with. I mean, come on, I got to hang out at the fair, ride a couple rides, and take photos of a beautiful family on one of the sunniest days of the year. So without any further ado, here is a selection of photographs of that day.
Here is Amanda and Ben catching up to Little M on the midway.

Ok Little M, we are going this way now…

Isn’t that my cotton candy…

This is a shot of her on her Daddy’s shoulders. I love the way she is pursing her lips in concentration.

Amanda and Ben on the Ferris Wheel. This shot was fun to take. It seemed like we could see all of Williamson County from up here…don’t worry, Little M was on the ground with Sharon.

One of M’s favorite things is riding the carousel. She is such a cutie.

Thank you Amanda and Ben for letting Sharon and I spend an afternoon at the Fair with you.
